Our Club

Stone and District Swimming Club (SADSC) was formed shortly after Alleyne’s Swimming Pool was opened in early 1970 by a few local people working at the British Telecom training school in Yarnfield, near Stone. The aim of the club was to promote all aspects of swimming and life-saving skills in the Stone area.

Swimming Sessions were on Saturdays and Mondays and all staff since the club’s inception have been volunteers.

When the club opened there was no other organisation providing swimming lessons for either children or adults and thus lessons proved extremely popular. The club also branched out into lifeguard training and up until relatively recently provided the lifeguards for the centre.

The club also joined a local league with other clubs in the region and thus regular held swimming galas at Alleyne’s. Due to the popularity of the galas and the amount of people wanting to watch their children from both Stone and visiting clubs, SADSC helped to raise funds for the addition of a spectator area looking out over the pool at Alleyne’s Sports Centre.
The mini league disappeared several years ago but we still run our internal gala once a year.

The key to SADSC survival since 1970 has been its ability to adapt. With the advent of the new pool on Westbridge Park, and Stafford Borough Council’s policy of bringing in a separate organisation to run sports services on their behalf, the club has again been required to adapt to ensure its survival.

These changes have ushered in a new era at the club and we look forward to it going from strength to strength in the future.
